Elephant Trunk Hill stands majestically in the downtown area of Guilin city, at the junction of the Li River & the Peach Blossom River. The name was chosen because the hill looks like a giant elephant dipping its trunk into the river. The green water of Li River in front of it and the clear spring at the foot make Elephant Trunk Hill one of the most famous hills in Guilin City.
Fubo Hill (Wave-Subduing Hill) is 120 meters long, 60 meters wide and 213 meters high. It stands solitarily in the northeast of the city and on west bank of Li River with half of the hill stretching into the river. Waves run back wherever they meet the blocks, hence the name "wave-subduing Hill". A tale has it that Ma Yuan who was called General Fubo from the Han Dynasty had once passed by Guilin on a southern expedition. He poured all the pearls he carried into the river, so the hill was named after him in his memory.
Comprising different kinds of natural rock formations, Reed Flute Cave (Lu Di Yan) is the most important and sight worthy cave of Guilin vicinity for its length of 240 meters and its many stalactites, stalagmites and rock formations in weird and wonderful shapes appealing to everyone’s imagination. As a typical Chinese habit for giving names to rock formations, the origins of the caves name comes from the reed grass growing outside the cave and used by the locals to make flutes and pipes producing a melodious sound. More than just a random cave, the Reed Flute Cave is a Guilin top attraction that visitors should discover.
